Level measurement: maximum chemical resistance when measuring in extremely aggressive media
Introduction: Hydrostatic level probes which are fully submerged are often used to monitor liquids in tanks or containers. In order to ensure that the products have a long service life, it is extremely important to use durable materials.
APPLICATION
Aggressive and corrosive liquids are a major challenge in hydrostatic level measurement, since they can attack the components of the submersible probes over the course of time, which can lead to falsification of the measurement results or complete failure of the device.
Thanks to the use of resistant materials, BD|SENSORS is already reacting to this in its standard product range with solutions which favour the use of ceramic membranes in combination with housings made from plastic or special alloys.
However, if media such as phosphoric, sulphuric or nitric acid are involved, the standard configurations are not resistant to an unlimited extent. Instead, an application-specific solution is required which provides long-term stability and particularly protects the membrane which comes into contact with the medium.
IMPLEMENTATION
For applications in this demanding environment, BD|SENSORS users have the possibility of configuring selected level probes so that the ceramic measuring cell which is used is provided with an additional PTFE protective layer. The pressure-sensitive sensor membrane is therefore protected from direct contact with the medium.
In conjunction with FEP-sheathed cables, housings made from PVDF and FFKM seals, BD|SENSORS therefore provides level probes whose components which come into contact with the medium are exclusively made from fluoroplastics, and are therefore extremely chemically resistant.
Among other things, these special solutions are used in the manufacture of fertilizers, the surface treatment of metals and also in the manufacture of storage batteries.
Thanks to the use of specially adapted materials, BD|SENSORS provides extremely dependable solutions which make the process reliable.
